On this page of our web site, we want to set the record straight! Many of you are aware of the significance of our influence on the development of the Minneapolis Music Scene, and more importantly, Pepé Willie's enormous contributions to Prince's success in the music business. Although our reputation and credibility have been substantiated in a number of written publications (e.g., references in A Pop Life by Dave Hill, The Encyclopedia of Rock Stars by Rees and Crampton, Prince: A Documentary by Per Nilsen of Uptown Magazine, Prince: The First Illustrated Biography by John W. Duffy, Prince; Unauthorized by Simitar Entertainment), the one way our influence would be established without question would be acknowledgement from Prince himself. No one makes it completely on their own! Without Pepé's contributions, who knows whether Prince would have achieved the success he has today. The relationship between Pepe' Willie and Prince can be compared to the relationship between teacher and apprentice. Pepe' and Prince were good friends who not only played music together and wrote together, but also hung out and played basketball together. They were family. Click on the illustration to the left. The timeline graphically illustrates the intimate involvement Pepe', Marcy, and Kristie had with Prince from the mid-70s through the mid-80s. |
